Re: When Knight Rider was cancelled in '86

There's a reason that the "stock footage" was used for each transformation. They had to use 3 different cars. One regular car, one driveable car in the SPM configuration, and a transforming one. The transforming one had to have its engine and drivetrain removed to make room for the moving ...

How does Karr get painted silver after crashing through the semi? I assume that karr forced Bonnie to do that after crashing into the semi!? It seems like a lot of stuff was cut out after karr crashed into the mobile command center. I mean you see karr crash in, the guy yanks the laser out of bonni...

Uh...there may be isolated places here and there where the gullwing steering wheel is illegal...but it's not in most places. It's perfectly legal where I am (Ohio). I don't even know of any places that have any laws about what kind of steering wheel you can have. With regard to the scanner, it would...

My biggest nitpick with Knight of the Drones is that, before KITT is blown up with the rocket, there's a point where Michael stops the car and gets out, and KITT already has the new dash that he's not supposed to have yet.

IIRC, Don Peake wanted to come up with something in a similar style to "Axel F" from Beverly Hills Cop when he came up with that song. I think he did a pretty good job.

How would a turboshaft lift the car off the ground? Turboshaft engines produce almost no thrust, nearly all of the thrust is captured by the turbine to spin the shaft. The only concerns I'd have would be 1) torque...the car body would have to be greatly strengthened to avoid being twisted by the tor...

Actually, Chrysler put out several turbine-powered cars in the late 50's/early 60's. I think they were able to achieve 18mpg with a couple of them (actually not all that bad considering the time period...piston engines of the time weren't much more efficient). They overcame most of the turbine engin...

This movie has been talked about for so long I've lost hope that anything will ever come of it. Sadly, I'm considering it vaporware until I can go to a theater and see it. It's gone through something like 3 revisions so far, with still no production work done at all, or actors even announced. At thi...

I liked the episode, but the whole "ramjet" thing was really bad technobabble. It's obvious that they didn't know what a ramjet is or how it actually works. All a ramjet is, is a regular turbojet with the compressor removed from the front. The compressor is needed at lower speeds to produc...

A lot of the car jumps were real, especially in season 1. They used specially equipped stunt cars that were fitted with rubber shells/body panels that could be easily switched out. These stunt cars look *terrible* when seen up close, they are heavily modified to be able (to an extent) withstand jump...

As far as I know, none of the original songs were actually used in the series. They're all covers. Some of them decent covers, some not so good, but none of them were the original artists. You can of course get all the songs used in the series, but they probably won't be the same versions used in th...

Here's the problem with SPM (and the reason they had to use recycled footage). It required 3 cars. 1 normal car, one "SPM" car, and one transforming car. Due to the hydraulics involved, the transforming car did not have room under the hood for the engine, transmission, and all of the hydra...

I do hope they're a little more realistic with KITT's abilities in the movie. The series tended to use too many unbelievable "devices of the week" that only showed up in one episode. And a couple of times they had KITT doing obviously impossible (even with his abilities) things, like levit...

Unless I hear reviews that say it's horrible beyond belief, I'll probably go see it...even then, it depends on who's doing the reviewing. If it's Knight Rider fans on here doing the reviewing and they say it's terrible, I probably won't see it. If it's "professional" critics saying it's ba...

Michael's Trans-Am WAS left in the desert, along with a body for the cops to find (I believe Wilton and Devon were talking about this in the pilot, about having to steal a body from the morgue so that the cops would think Michael was dead). KITT was not made from Michael's car...the only reason they...

They never really clarified in the show exactly what pursuit does. Pursuit doesn't make the car go any faster in and of itself...it merely allows manual control at higher speeds by having KITT assist the driver in controlling the car rather than controlling it completely (auto). In auto, there's no ...

on a slightly different note, does anyone know why they bothered giving Michael Long a black and gold T/A as his car at the beginning, considering it would have been cheaper to give him any other car???? I think SPM gave KITT better acceleration at takeoff too. It took KITT a lot longer to get up to 300mph (though he did do it a couple of times) without SPM. One thing I don't understand though, is the whole bomb in the trunk that they did in several episodes. KITT didn't have any MBS or special prot...

Stuff like turbo boosts and jumps can be done with CG nowadays...that could make the car look like it's actually doing the impossible things that it did in the series, instead of using quickly changing camera angles. It's funny when you see the jump car nearly break in half when it lands, then after...

I think they should make KITT a 2002 Trans Am (obviously with a different nose like they did with the 3rd gens in the series, so the scanner will look right). It's true that they used different cars, but there's more to it than just using 4 Trans-Am's. The cars they used for jumping were specially built "jump cars" that were put together completely different from how a normal Trans-Am is. For one, the jump cars had front leaf springs. The jumps ...
