Canon is whatever fits into the original story line, whatever actually "happened" in the Knight Rider universe. As there is no "official" canon, I think it's up to everyone to decide what they consider canon and what they don't.

Even though KR 2000 was just wrong on so many levels it is the only true post Scent of Roses episode/movie ever made, so it is absolutely canon. Well, we can agree to disagree. :) The writers just threw KARR in there because they really had no understanding of the KR mythology or what made the show...

There is no in-story connection between the two KARRs. KARR in 2008 was not meant to be the same computer/program/whatever that we saw in the 80s. That's actually how I saw it, too, but why use the name KARR to build another AI then? Like, would you vote for a politican called Hitler or Stalin toda...
